Nora is the daughter of an Anglican missionary, Rupert Neville Hastings. Serving the London Missionary Society, Nora always accompanied her father on his work. Living in China for most of her early years, she fled with her father during the Boxer Rebellion of 1905. Afterwards, Mr. Hastings never settled in one mission field for more than a few years before moving on to a new calling, Nora faithfully at his side.
Nora’s education consisted mostly of her father’s tutalege, since there was often a derth of schools where her father was chosen to spread the gospel. She is well read, self-reliant, and while she can be very outgoing and charming, she is at times very reclusive.
She was most recently in the mission field of Inida until November of 1920, when she showed up in Newport for reasons unknown. She is currently working as a domestic servant at Rosecliff, where socialite Theresa Fair Oelrichs entertains the elite of Newport.
